Reading In Style

With the popularity of books like the “Harry Potter” series and “The Hunger Games” being adapted to movie screens, it gives me hope to see the fantastic growth in readership of both young and old. So, keeping that in mind I thought I’d post a few lovely images of home type libraries, you know the kind of spaces that make you wanna curl up with a good book, and give it your undivided attention.

I know there are many folks who love their e-readers, but I’m the old fashioned, “let me feel, smell, and probably dog ear the pages of a great book”, kind of girl! There’s just something about the tactile feel of real books and browsing in a bookstore, or your own bookcase, that gets a readers blood flowing….being able to thumb through volumes and see the visual appeal of cover art, that simply looses it’s draw for me in the electronic medium. Home libraries can really be anything from a comfortable chair and a small bookcase to the grand staircase and laddered variety, and they can inspire not only the love of reading, but provide great home decor!

Got Grey?

Yes, Grey has become the new neutral, the blend with anything “it” color. I think I stayed away from grey for a long time because it seamed so boring, but now in retrospect, I think people just didn’t use “grey” in the right way, or at least not to my tastes. I’ve come to admire the subtle traits of grey as I’ve gotten myself reacquainted with what I now feel is a truly versatile color. So, when my mom recently asked for my help to redesign her bedroom, using a grey palette, it didn’t send me out scoffing as it once would have, instead the idea sent my design eye in motion, contemplating the possibilities and potential pairings, blended with whites, lavenders, turquoise, black or one of my faves, yellow and grey.  So, if you were like me, I challenge you to take a second look at grey”, you  might end up seeing it in a whole new light.

Light, Bright & Airy

I just love a well lit room! I mean who doesn’t love a living space that’s light & airy, with glorious sunlight streaming in through big, crystal clear windows. There is just something life giving and motivational about bright spaces, it provides the perfect setting for any task, I especially love working in a bright, clear kitchen and dining area, since my dining table is a double duty work space most of the time…giving me or my family a place to do homework, arts and crafts, game play, etc… as well as an actual dining place. So, I love having a sunny space, not only for it’s beauty and functionality, but for the energy it gives one, in that space.
