Decide on your style.  Will you be doing formal or casual ?
If you want a casual look, go for cotton or linen or a print.
If you prefer a formal style-choose from Linen/Velour or
damask, chenille, silk and brocades are good choices.

Think about function and style.  If you are picking out fabric
for a family room sofa, silk is not a good choice, especially
if you have pets and children.

Check out design sources.  Source 4 Interiors recommends
using a professional workroom or fabricutor to complete your
drapery and upholstery projects. It is always a good idea to
consult with a  Drapery shop, furniture stores, upholstery
shops or an interior design specialist are all good resources.
Take a sample home or order a cutting for approval so you
can see the product up close.
